In a male dominated industry, Karla Ferguson stepped out on faith & intellect even when she was called "Crazy for opening up a gallery in Little Haiti". Karla had a passion to create an environment that was a cultural incubator for diversity, social justice and the Diaspora of black culture in visual arts. And like that, The Yeelen Gallery was born!

"I was told that no one would ever go there (Little Haiti) and that work representing the black experience and consciousness was a waste of time especially financially"

Since the opening of the Yeelen Gallery, Karla has brought in some of the industries greatest influencers like Al Sharpten, David Banner & conscious Artist like Sylvia Maier.

The Yeelen is not only a 10,000 sq ft space for art exhibits, its also a hub for culture awareness, a safe house for creatives!

This year, the gallery kicks off a reception party for James Clover's solo exhibition

"WOKE AF" tomorrow Dec 3rd, 2016. With a guest count is expected to be over 2,000, not too bad for a gallery that many predicted to fail. Goes to show you the power of Black Girl Magic & gumption.
