Dallas Confident(tial) w/ Ciara Anderson

This winter, TXTURE received a photo submission from Dallas-based photographer Omar Ramos that featured YouTube vlogger Ciara Anderson. Not only were we struck by the gorgeous photography of Ciara’s beauty, we also loved the confidence and positivity she exuded in each photo. It was only natural that we reach out and ask her to share some of her thoughts and feelings about having confidence as a black woman in this world. Read on!
“I started embracing my natural features two years ago after I was diagnosed with traction alopecia from wearing too many sew in weaves and from not taking care of my hair the proper way. Without my weave, I didn't feel beautiful. I was a slave to society's idea of beautiful: long straight hair.
After my hair grew back I got a cute tapered cut and fell in love. After months of hiding my damaged hair under wigs I felt free! After I cut my hair and fell in love with my natural hair and look. I created my YouTube channel, aiming to inspire and teach other naturals how to style and care for their hair.
My hair journey hasn't just been about hair - it has also built my self esteem and helped me to love myself. My goal is to spread confidence and love so young black girls and women can feel beautiful as they are. We don't have to conform to European standards; we were meant to be different and different is beautiful!”
